30 Mass Spectrometers!

IMSB reached the milestone of 30 mass spectrometers in operation! These are key for the analysis of proteins, metabolites, and lipids in complex systems. This makes IMSB one of the worldwide largest research units of this kind, and a premier site for systems biology.

These instruments are worth tens of millions CHF, obtained through >15 years of research activity and generous funding by ETH, SNF, ERC, several foundations, industrial partners, further competitive grants, and collaborations with MS vendors.

For the curious, at the moment half of the systems is from Thermo, followed by Sciex, Agilent, and one Bruker instrument.
