Marco completed his undergraduate studies in biochemistry at ETH Zurich, where he focused on RNA biology and proteomics. As part of his master's thesis, he joined the lab of Prof. Jan Karlseder at the Salk Institute (La Jolla, CA, United States) and worked on the roles of helicases in human telomere replication. After completion of his master's, he continued in the same lab studying telomere protection and DNA damage signaling in telomere deprotected cells.

Marco joined the Picotti and the Bodenmiller labs (Institute for Molecular Life Sciences, University of Zurich) in January 2015 in order to better understand breast cancer diversity by merging the expertises of the two labs in SRM and mass cytometry, respectively.
