Martin completed his BSc at the University of Victoria, Canada majoring in molecular biology. After his studies, he worked in the lab of Prof. Terry Pearson selecting antibodies for the enrichment of candidate biomarkers upstream of quantitative mass spectrometry (MS). He then further pursued MS method development in the lab of Prof. Ruedi Aebersold at ETH Zürich, where he obtained his MSc with a focus on using selected reaction monitoring for measuring cancer-associated proteins in human plasma.
Martin joined the Picotti lab as a PhD student in order to understand how cells cope with α-Synuclein (α-Syn) aggregation and its associated cytotoxicity. He will characterize proteome-wide responses to α-Syn aggregation and show how these are reverted or potentiated by a set of known genetic modulators.
